Crous social aid

Are you having difficulty keeping up with your studies and student life? Under certain conditions, you may be eligible for special assistance.
They can take two forms:
  • In other words, a one-off grant to help a student who is temporarily experiencing serious difficulties, and is an ideal tool for providing rapid, personalized financial assistance.
  • An annual allowance granted to students facing long-term difficulties.

Occasional help

Ad hoc assistance can be provided to students who are experiencing significant and urgent financial problems to enable them to continue their studies. The seriousness of the situation must be attested by a social assessment.

This aid is cumulative with a grant based on social criteria, an annual allowance, international mobility aid and merit-based aid.

How do I apply for emergency assistance?

  1. Make an appointment with the social worker responsible for your area of study.
  2. Fill in and send to Crous a file with the required supporting documents.
  3. Your application will be processed by a Crous social worker responsible for your area of study.
  4. Presentation to a select committee.

Attention If you need to make several appointments, make sure you choose the social worker you've already met. You'll save time by not having to present your situation all over again.

Annual allowance

The annual allowance is a bursary paid monthly for students who do not meet the student social file criteria.

Who can benefit?

  • Students in a situation of family breakdown, raised by a family member without a court order (other than parents).
  • Students in a situation ofproven autonomy (fiscally independent and without parental assistance).
  • Students over 28 who are returning to school and have no financial resources.
  • Students who are French nationals or nationals of a European Union member state other than France, of a state belonging to the European Economic Area or of the Swiss Confederation, living alone on French territory and whose family's declared income residing abroad does not allow them to qualify for a grant.

Terms of payment

Allocation depends on the student's overall monthly budget (income / expenses). This assistance is paid monthly for 10 months. The amounts awarded are based on the same scales as those for scholarships based on social criteria under the classic procedure.

How do I apply for an annual allowance?

To apply for an annual allowance, you must submit a scholarship application.

To qualify for this assistance, you must meet the conditions of diploma, studies and nationality, and not fall under one of the following categories cases of exclusion provided for by regulations relating to higher education grants based on social criteria. You must also complete the same attendance requirements than a scholarship student.
