Combating discrimination

Discrimination, what are we talking about?

Discrimination is characterized by three elements:
  1. Unequal and unfavorable treatment of a person or group of people.
  2. In connection with a criterion defined by law (there are 26 of them including: origin, physical appearance, family name, appearance or not real or supposed to be of a race, ethnicity, nation or religion, ability to express oneself in a language other than French, sexual orientation, gender identity).
  3. Taking the form of an act, practice or rule in a professional context or in access to a public or private good or service (e.g. refusal to hire, difference in remuneration, refusal of an internship, refusal of access to university premises).
All discrimination criteria are available on the website service-public.fr.

Discrimination is a criminal offense and the grounds for discrimination are aggravating circumstances for the penalties incurred.
