Following the success of Maldonne, choreographer Leïla Ka continues her exploration of female bodies and the norms that constrain them. On a stage devoid of artifice, eight dancers break with conventional postures in favor of a raw and communicative collective energy.
In just a few years, Leïla Ka has established herself as one of the most incisive voices on the young choreographic scene. A self-taught artist, she began her career as a performer for Maguy Marin with May B , before creating her own choreographies.
With Maldonne , her latest group piece presented at La Comédie de Valence in 2024 and which has since enjoyed international success, Leïla Ka celebrated the exhilarating power of sisterhood, encumbered by gestures inherited from centuries of patriarchal domination: standing straight, being beautiful, remaining contained.
In this new piece, the choreographer deliberately subverts this symbolic vocabulary. Through this impulse, she liberates the bodies by shattering the constraints that limit them. On a bare stage, eight performers occupy the space without restraint, propelled by electronic rhythms. The dance seeks neither elevation nor delicacy. The movements embrace weight, effort, sweat, and finally, the bodies take their rightful place.
