To mark Biodiversity Month, the Dominique Villars botanical garden, located in the heart of the campus health , opens its doors for a guided tour dedicated to the challenges of preserving life in urban environments.
A true green enclave, this garden is home to more than 500 plant species, including a wide variety of medicinal plants from different therapeutic traditions.
The visit will allow you to discover a selection of these plants, while also discussing their importance in health .

Also presented will be the concrete practices implemented to promote biodiversity: absence of pesticides, reasoned mowing, developments in favor of pollinators and commitment as a refuge of the League for the Protection of Birds.

The tour will be led by Manon Paul-Traversaz, director of the garden, teacher-researcher at the University of Grenoble Alpes, attached to the Alpine Ecology Laboratory.

Created in 2014, the Dominique Villars Garden is a garden of medicinal and toxic plants located in the park of the Faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy of the University of Grenoble Alpes.

This 7500m² educational garden currently boasts over 500 plants – primarily medicinal – grouped according to their therapeutic properties and distributed across 13 zones within the park. Special attention is also paid to plant look-alikes and poisonous plants.
Since its creation, the Dominique Villars Garden has continued to grow and enrich its offerings: an area dedicated to local biodiversity, a medieval herb garden inspired by the Hippocratic theory of the four humors, a vegetable garden of medicinal and edible plants, a wattle garden, a labyrinth of Mediterranean plants, and a Japanese garden incorporating medicinal plants used in Asian traditions…
