In order to promote second-hand goods, the University of Grenoble Alpes is once again offering memberships to the sports recycling center this year.
It's back to school time, the sports forum is over, time to get equipped!Since last year, the University of Grenoble Alpes has had an agreement to offer 500 memberships to students who purchase equipment at the sports recycling center. Opened in September 2022 in downtown Grenoble, the sports recycling center is a non-profit store offering second-hand sports equipment and technical clothing for a wide range of sports and all seasons. The center also has a workshop area and offers paid workshops in bicycle repair and sewing.
Ecological and economic reasons
During the 2025-2026 academic year, UGA offered 300 memberships, all of which were used. Building on this success, 500 memberships will be offered this year, upon presentation of a student ID card in the store. The membership grants access to the purchase of products sold in the store. " We have students who come for environmental reasons, but they are not the majority; some come for economic reasons," explains Pauline Trotereau, coordinator of the Grenoble sports recycling center. "We also have international students who want to acquire equipment at a lower cost to use for a few months. "
A wide selection of equipment and materials
Being in an alpine region, the most purchased products are those dedicated to the mountains: "Students, especially those who have recently arrived, are looking for equipment to explore the mountains such as textiles, backpacks or winter textiles like gloves, hats and ski pants." But the offer is not limited to the mountains: snowshoes, water bottles or sports pants are also available.
Find these partners and actions and many more during the circular economy month led by the UGA in November. These actions are part of UGA's responsible purchasing plan.
