The winners of the first UGA photo contest, "Biodiversity on Our Campuses," have been announced. As part of Biodiversity Month, which took place in June 2025, the Université Grenoble Alpes organized its first photo contest focused on biodiversity. See the winning photos in its traveling exhibition.
Whether ordinary or rare, plant or animal, in any season and on any UGA site, the participants had the mission of highlighting the biodiversity present on the different UGA sites.
Discover here the 10 photos selected by the competition jury, out of the 45 submitted, including those of the two winners of the photography workshop.

Jury composition
Members of the Vice-Presidency for Ecological Transformation – TREC and colleagues from the management of TREC, LECA, the Planning Department, the Culture & CST Department and Grenoble-INP-UGA.
Snack time • Olivier Méplan • LPSC • Grenoble Peninsula • Young marten in the late afternoon eating a small grass snake.
Red squirrel • Léa Cicchiello • University campus • Stendhal building • Between the Stendhal building and the Law-Letters university library, red squirrels are often seen!
Roses and concrete • Léa Cicchiello • University campus • Diderot University Restaurant • Hollyhocks in front of the sculpture Place du Torrent.
This is not a poppy • Cécile Tournier Rua • Lautaret Garden • While walking in the Lautaret garden, I saw these poppy flowers, luminous and airy.
Synchrotron • Thierry Agueda • University Campus • Arboretum • The powerful rays of the sun pierce the leaves, revealing the fine structure hidden within the organic matter. A synchrotron accessible to all.
Shadow Scorpion • Thierry Agueda • University Campus • Arboretum • This scorpionfly (common scorpionfly) is resting on a shaded leaf. Perhaps it is searching for a spiderweb to steal scraps from. Recognizable by its scorpion-tail-shaped abdomen and long mandibles, this discreet fly is harmless to humans.
Sleeping pond, awake life • Romain Berne • University Campus • Arboretum • The photo was taken one spring morning, when the lotus flowers were not yet fully open, waiting for the sun to touch their petals. Around them, birds, frogs, dragonflies, and other insects are busy in a harmonious display at the heart of spring.
Balance • Romain Berne • University Campus • Arboretum • A haven for biodiversity, the pond is home to the broad-bodied chaser (Libellula depressa), which owes its name to its flat, wide underside. It is often the first dragonfly species to colonize newly restored habitats.
The carpenter's hat • Romain Berne • University grounds • Arboretum • A violet carpenter bee (Xylocopa violacea) forages on the flowers of a soft-leaved acanthus (Acanthus mollis). The pollen on its back and wings reflects the vital role of these pollinators!
Bird with open beak • Guillaume Laget • Polygone Building • IUT 1 • Unidentified bird* in very hot weather, searching for food (or water) in front of the Polygone IUT building. *Soul Sparrow
