Did you know that our Saint-Martin-d'Hères campus is a veritable haven of biodiversity? A real little corner of nature, just a stone's throw from the classrooms. Birds, squirrels, amphibians... Here, life abounds! Explore this hidden treasure, learn about environmental protection and take part in actions to preserve this wealth!
At the Université Grenoble Alpes, campus development is carried out in a reasoned manner, to combat the artificialization of land and
protect the flora and fauna present on the various university sites.
By signing the "Refuge LPO Collectivités" agreement with the Ligue pour la protection des oiseaux (LPO) de l'Isère, we have made our Saint-Martin-d'Hères campus
the largest LPO refuge in the Isère department. Through this five-year label, we aim to preserve and enrich the biodiversity present on the site, while involving our users (students and staff) in the specific management of its flora and fauna. Until 2025, the 180-hectare university estate will be a veritable laboratory for biodiversity in the city.
Owls, goldfinches, cinereous serins, barn swallows and hoopoes are just some of the 98 bird species observed on the Grenoble campus over the last 10 years, 81 of which are listed as threatened. And that's just the birds: the other species, mammals and amphibians, insects and butterflies, are also very numerous, and the LPO has drawn up an impressive inventory.
If you're interested, the LPO regularly organizes
awareness-raising activities such as nest-box installation and construction, campus walks and challenges...

Preserving biodiversity doesn't just concern rare species on the other side of the planet. It concerns us all, and each and every one of us can contribute to discovering it and raising awareness of it in our own backyard. This is the vocation of the Grenoble Alpes Biodiversity Observatory : Obiga.
The project is based on the collection and centralization of naturalist data gathered through a variety of actions and by a variety of people: experienced walkers, professional naturalists, confirmed naturalists from associations, students and schoolchildren.
