Framed silences, glimpses into lockdown

Exhibition Culture
March 5, 2026 - March 26, 2026 Saint-Martin-d'Hères - University Campus, Grenoble Metropolitan Area
The University of Grenoble Alpes and the Grenoble-Valence School of Art & Design present Framed Silences: Glimpses of Lockdown. A photographic exhibition dedicated to the sensitive, social, and visual imprints left by the lockdowns related to the Covid-19 pandemic in the Grenoble region.
The exhibition brings together photographers from all backgrounds to tell, through images, the story of the lockdown experience. Their diverse perspectives create a shared memory, made up of lives turned upside down and territories in flux.
These images, focused on the experience of lockdown in public spaces as well as in the urban and rural landscapes of the metropolis, also bear witness to the retreat into the domestic sphere, which became simultaneously a place of living, working, and introspection. Some, taken after the fact, reveal the lasting social and environmental impacts of the pandemic. Together, they form a valuable visual resource for understanding how a major collective event continues to inhabit bodies, places, and sensibilities.

This exhibition is the result of collaborative work carried out by Jean-Yves Cesbron, Pascale Riou, Alice Ensabella, the students of the Master 2 Museums, Exhibitions, Heritage of UGA and the curatorial module of ESAD • Grenoble.
